comment Understand the TTL in DNS zone SOA record
Thanks for such exhaustive reply! Does this mean that while one is not able to ask TTL for zone over DNS protocol(stored as TTL variable, hardcoded to DNS server software or overwritten by caching name-server), it is possible to ask how long remote name-servers should cache a non-successful response? And latter is stored on last field in SOA record(86400 seconds in my example)?

@TomTom if you write a 1GB file at 0.5GB/s, then you have to perform 4G XOR operations in a second. However, I fully understand your point and SSD's in RAID5 is indeed an extreme example.

@HopelessN00b I see. But for example in case of SSD's, which support sequential write speeds >500MB/s, this would mean 4000000000 XOR calculations per second. Even for multi-core processors, this seems to be considerable load, isn't it?

In my first statement I indeed meant that if a new write operation occurs(e.g. new file is written to disk), then new cluster is required. And I meant traditional file systems like ext3 and ext4. I added a drawing to clarify my question.

best practice for automated failover is probably to use ISP upstream router AND tier-1 ISP DNS server AND Google DNS server? In other words, failover connection to another provider only if all three are not reachable at the same time?
