comment Hardware RAID controller cache battery failure frequency/lifetime?
Yep it sure does...I agree it sounds like a horrible idea, but given the situation and requirement for no downtime, it might be worth a shot on a test server (or thirty test servers...) to see if it is possible. What is another option besides redoing the infrastructure to not rely on individual RAID batteries in thousands of servers?

I have never done this (probably because it sounds like a bad idea and I haven't had the issue as frequently as you are), but you could try replacing a RAID battery on a test server while it is on. Slide it out, take the cover off, disconnect the bad battery, and connect the good, then back in the rack...If all goes well, you have a new battery replacement process that doesn't involve downtime.

comment Mail server - limit connections on port 25 to 1 PC alone
so you have admin rights on the PCs, but not the e-mail server they are trying to send mail to/through? Is the mail server on a remote network or on your LAN?

comment arp-requests cannot be seen by specific nodes
given the issues you are having with the ZCN dongles, and your requirement to have the clients all talk directly to each other on the network I would just throw them out and replace with the TPLink dongles that actually work on your network. Or it could be a driver issue with the ZCN adapters - try another.

comment Why shouldn't you let developers near root passwords?
Segregation of duties is not exactly as you described. You want someone to be able to perform a single task by themselves or else nothing would ever get done. What you don't want is someone who can perform multiple, related tasks that could lead to escalation of privileges or breaking a critical application like a developer who writes code and is responsible for code review as well.

comment Block incoming DNS queries using netsh advfirewall
I'm not sure in what use case you would configure this firewall rule. If it is a DNS server, then you need to let in DNS queries. If it isn't then it doesn't matter if DNS queries are allowed to hit it since it wouldn't respond anyway...

comment PowerShell doesn't like the -AssignDriveLetter option of the New-Partition cmdlet
How did you populate $disk? What data is in that variable? It seems to be an object based on the way you are using it ($disk.Number), but you don't say how you populated it in the first place or what data it contains. You can't just type "$disk" and get info out of it.
