How auto configure or mirror my dev Ubuntu installation onto other dev machines? Some form of configuration management would be best (puppet, chef, cfengine, etc.) There are also other ways to do this, like Vagrant I'm afraid that none of the options are exceptionally trivial. Hopefully you kept great notes about what you added and changed. If you added any software that wasn't available upstream, I'd highly suggest putting that in a package compatible with your distro (rpm, deb, etc.) then put that package in your locally maintained repo. |

What are the basics of running a Web Server? That's a good start. One thing you didn't cover is repeat-ability. At some point you'll grow beyond the current setup. Are your directions for setting up the environment repeatable? Better yet, are they automated? Are you saving all of the source packages so you can recreate the environment, or are you relying on external repositories? How will you know when it's time to upgrade? Are you tracking the proper metrics? How are you reporting on them? |

How can I track down the cause of an automatic reboot that occurs each night at the same time? Is the cleaning crew attaching their vacuum to the UPS? |

Does the additional load on UPS in case of grid failure amount to 100%? It's interesting to hear your real world experiences on this. I would have thought the differences to be greater given the efficiency curves I've seen for the power supplies today. Maybe I'll get a chance to get some real data on this soon. Hopefully I'll be able to post our findings. |

Does the additional load on UPS in case of grid failure amount to 100%? The NEC says that you shouldn't load up a circuit over 80% capacity. APC PDUs have an audible alarm if you hit this threshold. Also note that power supplies are not 100% efficient. Loading to 45% per circuit would likely be acceptable given that one PSU will get powered off in a failure. The second circuit would then likely be loaded to 80% due to fewer losses in the PSUs. |
