I meant following the file descriptor, as it is defined in tail -f's man page. But nevertheless I have clarified my question.

This is only partially useful for my case. The watched file is very big the updated information at the top. It is no "scrolling" log file. Shift+F immediately scrolls to the end of the file...

The only source is the said Wikipedia article where the corresponding paragraph is marked with "citation needed". Are there any other reliable sources? I could not google anything.

Looks great. Is there any demo or at least a screenshot available?

statsd is just a very simple statistics aggregator and what I need is a GUI. That is why I have asked this question ;) TL;DR: statsd is great, but what I want is stats and a GUI/dashboard

It does not have a dynamic, easy to use GUI. Graphite is a rendering tool, not a dashboard like solution.

Thanks for the hint! I'd say it is more or less a "how can I do something" than a "what is the best product" question. I primarily need to solve the problem, that I do not want to send my server statistics to a third party in order to get state of the art statistics.
