comment Suddenly new folder for domain account
I still feel like that's not the complete story. The PC had a profile folder for my domain account, lacking the domain suffix. The account linked to this folder seemed to have run on cached credentials for quite a while. After it actually logged on to the domain again, Windows felt like creating a new profile folder for that very account, now with domain suffix. Assuming that Windows identifies accounts by SID, that doesn't make sense to me. Also note that the local user I created never logged in, so I'm not sure that one had a ProfileList entry (are these created only at login of the user?)

I don't mind being called a novice, just looking for an answer which you guys agree is trivial. So basically, that answer seems to be: if you ever logged in to a Windows 7 PC with your domain account, then created a local account with the same name, and afterwards, retry to login with that domain account, you just get hooked up to a new profile, effectively losing your previous settings?

I'm genuinely not sure as to why this would classify as off-topic. I would agree, as there are 5 ppl sharing this opinion, if I could only pinpoint the why. So please, enlighten me.

Well yeah, that's the issue. The problem has started from the moment that I created a local account with the same name as the domain account I use. After doing that, logging in created a new profile folder and I was unable reset it to the earlier situation.

@tonyroth: I guess I'm referring to cached credentials, yeah. But that would mean that I was never logged in to the domain to begin with, because the MyUserName profile folder was there from the beginning. But that doesn't make sense to me, as that account is really a domain account.
