comment Back end ec2 instance is accessible through ssh and browser but fails load balancer health check
Is the host name abcloadbalancer... the load balanced host name? If yes, then the 503 is most likely due to your ping test failing. Is your web site up and running?

comment Is there a specific name for the “.\” (dot-slash) shorthand used to log onto a Windows machine?
+1 I didn't know that ".\" was shorthand for "<this computer>\<user name>", thanks for the TIP!

Are you saying that MySQL's memory usage increases using up all of the available memory?

comment How to exclude IP from htaccess domain redirect
Are you sure about what IP address your sever sees for %{REMOTE_ADDR}? This condition reads if REMOTE_ADDR is NOT = 1.2.3.4 AND HTTP_HOST is site1.com, redirect to site2.com. Therefore IP address 1.2.3.4 should not get redirected.

comment How to kill a hung service on Windows 2008R2
My guess is that is related to @ChrisS' comment on being stuck in a kernel routine.

If you click on Stack, what does the stack look like for the stuck threads?

comment tcpdump: snaplen set to 0 but still get “Packet size limited during capture”?
Do you have TCP offload enabled? I have seen very large TCP packets returned to WinPCAP when TCP offload is enabled.

comment .htaccess - Too many redirects
Just to clean up this question. When the site allows you, you should post your own answer saying that everything just started working as expected after you replaced your .htaccess file back to the contents shown in your question.

comment .htaccess - Too many redirects
Maybe the web server had a bad copy of .htaccess cached and was working with an older perhaps incorrect version of the file.

comment .htaccess - Too many redirects
You are correct, the RedirectMatch permanent ^/$ /forum/ redirects http://www.domain2.com/ to http://www.domain2.com/forum/.

comment .htaccess - Too many redirects
Yes, but try using your new .htaccess file without RedirectMatch permanent ^/$ /forum/ and see if that resolves your problem? Or try it later in the day during your site's low usage period.

comment .htaccess - Too many redirects
You can run curl from a laptop. You can download it from curl.haxx.se/download.html. Pick the Windows 32 bit generic version. I'm also looking into what your RedirectMatch permanent ^/$ /forum/ rule does. That may be the culprit for the infinite redirects.

comment .htaccess - Too many redirects
What do you get if you perform curl --verbose http://www.domain2.com/forum/? Do you get an HTTP 200 OK or something else?

comment dreamhost | connecting mysql remotely over https
@DerfK Yes, I see what you mean, he did say that SQLBuddy is hosted outside of DreamHost.
