comment lighttpd does not start at boot after enabling ipv6
If you get the address via dhcpv6 binding to "[::]:80" sounds like the better solution :)

comment lighttpd - redirect everything to https
The example on the wiki page is fine; the question is how you tried to use it - maybe show us a larger part of your config.

comment lighttpd - redirect everything to https
.* matches by default the complete string (greedy match), and so %0 and $0 are perfectly fine. $SERVER also adds a socket bind, which usually isn't wanted - the scheme matching is the right way.

comment Rewrite Location response header in lighttpd
You could try to load mod_magnet before mod_proxy and use magnet.attract-raw-url-to to load a lua script which sets lighty.env["uri.scheme"] = "https", making mod_proxy send a X-Forwarded-Proto: https header, so the backend generates correct location headers.

comment Why does an IPv6 route added before virtual machine is started not work
I'm having the same problem - deleting and readding the route fixes the sendmsg problem. Kernel: Linux ... 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.57-3+deb7u1 x86_64 GNU/Linux

comment CGI scripts are not working on lighttpd with SSL
The redirect looks fine, for everything else you didn't provide enough details. Basically it "should" still work if it worked before.

comment How can I set up a web server for reverse proxy having websockets and socket.io working normally?
HAProxy is a fine tool to route/balance to other HTTP backends and should work well with WebSockets

comment How can I set up a web server for reverse proxy having websockets and socket.io working normally?
lighttpd 1.4.x (the current stable series) does not support bidirectional connections, i.e. no WebSockets.

comment Redirect all subdomains to main domain with lighttpd and regex
You should match $HTTP["host"] == "domain.com", or use an anchored regex, as otherwise it will first rewrite and then redirect the rewritten url.
