try with mount options acdirmin= and acdirmax= to control times client caches directory attributes.

I think you need overlayfs, where lover fs your nfs server, and upper fs some local directory. git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/mszeredi/vfs.git/tree/…

do you want client to wire, but writes must not be sent to the server?

comment NFS client mounts pointing to the same host directory
nfsv4 builds a pseudofs. as your case you actually mount /mona. remove it from export file and re-mount.

comment Restart an in-use NFS server without interruption (within timeout)
if you mount with option 'hard' , which is default, then your clients will block as long as nfs server not available. The automount timeout is option tells you how long is the idle time until nfs server unmounted.

comment How Do I enable Safe Asynchronous Write With NFS?
It's other way around - NFS does what you ask for, and some times even does better. There is no difference in using nfs or local local disk. Unless you did not call fsync, there is no guarantee that data is written on disk. If your application requires this, db for example, then each fsync should trigger COMMIT. I am sure, every one expects from NFS server to write data to disk if it was asked to do so. What you can do, is to tell nfs server not to sync data to disk as long as client did not requested it. And this is by having async option in export.

probably, by calling sync afterword. The VM flushes pages periodically.
