comment inconsistency between du -sh and df -h
This difference can be triggered by block size on the NAS server. du shows number of byes, df - number of blocks * block size. Additionally, df asks NAS server for usage information, du counts it locally,

comment How do I speed up “ls -l” on a network file system (NFS)?
The slowest part is getting file attributes for each single file. You can a bit speed it up by increasing nfs client cache life time. Check acregmin and acregmax mount options ( man nfs )

comment NFSv4 and rpcbind
NFSv4 doesn't require rpcbind. But there are clients and tools around which still depend on that information, for example 'showmount'. Additionally, Linux nfsd uses /proc/fs/nfsd/portlist file to communicate port number to rpcbind, and this file somehow depends on running rpcbind process.

comment bash: setting environment variables from a script and leave a shell prompt
with options --noprofile --norc you will force bash not to read /etc/profile and bashrc. So add /bin/bash --noprofile --norc at the end of your script

comment Connection timeout on socket for a host machine
The TCP handshake has three steps: SYN, SYN-ACK, ACK. Connection timeedout indicates that SYN-ACK message ( or ICMP control message ) did not arrive.

comment NFS user mapping
This is true for NFsv3 and will not work with NFSv4. V4 relay on the fact, that user names are shared between client and server, while uid/gid cant be different. In opposite, v3 shares uid and gid. Probably, you have to mount with vers=3 to solve your problem. The other possibility to turn off id mapping on the server side: echo "options nfs nfs4_disable_idmapping=1" > /etc/modprobe.d/nfs.conf
