That's my philosophy too, however the main thing here is that the OP asked for ways to permanently get rid of an user. I merely told him another way, without recommending it especially. :)

Yes. But so is re-registering on a Website you have been previously banned. I should may add that I'm from germany where jurisdiction has given Website owners a virtual domestic authority. So re-registering essentially is intrusion but it's rarely really enforced by law. So "hellbanning" as last resort is in turn, if all else fails justified in my eyes. It all boils down to in what legal boundaries you have to act.

I forgot to mention that we switched servers and datacenters. We had a vServer previously and we switched from this hoster (because of the lags) to a different one and a Dedicated server and still experienced those lags. So I pretty much ruled that out. But you are right, I should have mentioned this. Sorry.

That was a good hint. The NS was not slow but the server queried it for the subdomain the AJAX runs on alot. Putting it in the hosts file has reduced the queries. We'll see if this helps. Thanks!

I forgot to mention that I have 0 slow queries logged. But I will try the strace.
