comment How can you tell what a server actually does?
Related question about a Windows 2003 server. Top-voted answers are not OS-specific.

comment Removing an (apparently) infinitely recursive folder
@AleksandrDubinsky: My old laptop still has a near-infinitely deep Eclipse workspace on it. I'm fairly sure running this program will actually overflow if I tried running it.

comment How to protect against loss of server on a budget
@MSalters It's certainly possible (and sometimes deceptively probable) for rebuilds to fail in such cheap set-ups but you'd generally expect any reputable VPS to foresee these scenarios and design their system to prevent them from happening.

comment Should we be installing Windows Security updates?
@TheCleaner Make that short for "developers in charge of maintaining their own servers". For better or worse (likely the latter) the OP apparently has the rights to manage the business systems he's using and as such his question is perfectly on topic. Whether he put in enough effort before turning to the site is an entirely different but valid question. Remember that Topicality ≠ Quality.

comment Should we be installing Windows Security updates?
@TheCleaner Beginner and non-expert questions are perfectly acceptable on the network. While the OP could have done some research first this question is useful for many other developers working in an environment that's badly managed and configured.

comment How to identify who/what uses a Windows 2003 server?
At the risk of ruining a joke: who do you refer to as greybeards? Users? Managers? Support staff?

Where do I get one of those simultaneous-turn dual-key contraptions and does it come with USB?

comment Why should I start to replace Windows Server 2003?
You make two interesting points but the entire security aspect as discussed by MichelZ is missing from your answer. Given the tags on this question and its target audience you're giving dangerous advice.

comment Convert Public Folder to Shared Mailbox
A useful suggestion and a valid approach but unfortunately not an answer to the question as we are already locked into using shared mailboxes.

comment ADMX Policies and Preferences
Answered myself as I eventually found what I believe to be the right answer. Documented it some more to help myself understand and so others (or me if I forget it again) can find it.
