comment Accessing IIS website over ad hoc wireless network
Sorry. I hadn't turned the firewall off. I failed to notice that there were 3 seperate profiles and I'd only turned it off for the domain profile. I turned it off for all and it was fine. I've now enabled the inbound rule for HTTP traffic and all is well.

The firewall was on, which was really stupid of me. But even after turning it off I don't seem to be any closer. I've updated my question to answer your telnet question.

comment Piping powershell messages to Write-EventLog
Thanks for the edit. This does seem like a very nasty limitation. It seems like the easiest way to fix is to get the custom script to output a status object, but it seems messy.

It doesn't return anything. It prints status messages with WriteVerbose and errors with ThrowTerminatingError. Those are the things I want to log.

When I say edit, I mean a simple style edit. Not change your answer.

It's more of a future proofing issue and not being sure of all the file types currently being used. It's starting to look like the best option though.

I tried to upvote this, but it seems I was too slow and it won't let me unless you edit it. Make an edit and I'll give you the upvote you deserve. And sorry for being slow.

I also tried using *, but static files like jpegs were also run through PHP and it didn't like this.

This is a possible answer, but it doesn't seem very future proof and it's such a big project that I'm unsure about all the file types it already contains. I'm sure there must be a nicer way to do this.

I have this set up fine already for the php extension. I need to do it for files with no extension.

comment Powershell challenge
Due to some confusion this question was migrated to Stack Overflow and then unmigrated. Keith Hill on Stack overflow added the shorter answer ls|sort{"$_"[-1]}

I noticed too that this only sorts by the last letter, unlike the linux version. However the challenge stated "by the LAST character" so this answer answers the question, even if the two solutions aren't equal.

That's brill. Not as short as the Linux alternative, but still pretty good.

comment “HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error” with Dynamic Data
Thanks! I deleted the setting in dd's web.config and it worked. Obvious really, but I don't like messing with generated config entries I don't fully understand. Plus, I thought setting up an application folder insulated the applications more from each other.

comment Can't Upgrade an MDF from SQL 2005 - 2008
This worked, but it did lead to another permissions based error when I tried to run the site again. I rechecked permissions and it turned out the app_data folder settings had not been inheritted by both the DB files. Both files need modify permissions given to the IIS_IUSRS group.

I have the LDF file. Sorry for not making that clear.
