comment Installed SSL for domain, now getting connection reset error
Happened to me as well after importing an SSL cert and trying to bind it. Turns out, when importing the cert, it has to have the private key marked as exportable or else it won't bind in IIS.

comment Can an email server be set-up on an Azure VM?
I've set up quite a few SMTP servers on Azure VMs, implemented reverse DNS, and had absolutely no issues with mail delivery. Just my 2 cents.

comment Mutual SSL authentication - client certificate vs server certificate
Well in this case the web application and web client run on the same machine so I guess it will be OK to use the same cert. Thanks!

comment IIS 6.0 FTP Folder Permissions
I would recommend just downloading FileZilla FTP server. Much easier to set up users/permissions from the gui and even FTPS. And if you're interested in SSH/SFTP, there's a fully working implementation of OpenSSH for Windows (tested it on 2012 R2): github.com/PowerShell/Win32-OpenSSH/releases/tag/12_22_2015
