comment Changes to data ordering between SQL Server 2000 and 2012
It is highly likely that the changes in the query optimizer from 2000 to 2012 has chosen a more optimal path to satisfy the query in the stored proc. The more optimal path likely involves using an index that is resulting in the rows being returned in a different order. The solution is and only ever will be to add an ORDER BY clause to the query.

comment SQL Server Express 2012 R2 shuts down when trying to connect via SQL authentication
Maybe show the log file contents in your question. It will almost certainly have the reason for the shutdown.

comment Dynamics AX Database Autogrowth Recommendations
You may run into timeouts in Dynamics if the log cannot be grown quickly enough. Depending on the type of disk subsystem your log is on, you may be able to get away with a much larger autogrowth setting. Test it on a non-production system.

comment unable to load dll 'olepro32.dll' the specified module could not be found
Welcome to DLL hell. You might be experiencing a problem where the specific version of olepro32.dll is not loaded onto your system. Is this some software that you wrote? Or do you know the developers? You may need to ensure their setup package contains the correct olepro32.dll the application was compiled with.

comment How can I reliably determine the hardware version of a VMWare Guest from inside the guest?
I was attempting to audit the configuration of hundreds of VMs - looking for anomalies that might explain performance issues on some of them. I have access to run executables in the VMs, and was hoping to exploit that ability as a way to understand exactly how the host is configured.

Are you using the GUI or T-SQL commands to setup mirroring?

comment Copying files with tilde has odd behaviour
Windows removes the tilde from the file name when looking to see if an existing file with that name already exists.

comment SQL Server: Worse performance on a new server
Have you configured MAXDOP to the number of cores / CPU node? With the bigger machine, and the default MAXDOP setting of 0, parallelized queries will be much more parallel and will be consuming far memory instead of local memory. This has the potential to slow the new machine quite a lot. We talked about MAXDOP extensively over at dba.stackoverflow.com on this question: dba.stackexchange.com/questions/36522/…

comment Need some information about using SQL-Express 2012 with an OLD databse software
the .BAK files are SQL Server backups... you need to use SQL Server to RESTORE DATABASE on those files to restore the original .mdf and .ldf (if that is necessary)

comment Configuring VPN on Windows Server 2008 with no DHCP
turn off outside access to your SQL Server immediately unless you are 100% certain you can afford to lose everything on the server. All it takes is one mistake on your behalf and you will regret ever opening that can of worms. For the VPN, you can configure a static range of IPs to be handed out by the Server.

comment SQL Server ODBC Connection via Command Line
I don't understand the "remotely via command line" bit. Are you saying you want to connect to a machine and use cmd.exe to create a text file that contains an ODBC connection string?

comment PerfMon counters have different Page File % Usage values for _Total and C:\pagefile.sys for SQL Server on VM
The only way this is related to DBA.SE is because it's a vm hosting a SQL Server. The question is entirely unrelated to SQL Server, or databases in general. The question ONLY relates to how to look at Windows Performance Monitor.

comment What is the default RAID-50 stripe size on a Dell EqualLogic PS6510?
I've looked at Dell's support site, and have looked at the online help for the SAN itself, no luck. We have a question in to Dell, and are waiting for an answer now.
