comment How can I manage hundreds of IPMI BMCs?
ILIV, I think it would be nice if I had some time to add all the features of vsc-manage to ansible ;-)

comment Preventing theft of data on remotely deployed servers exposed to physical access
If I can still get access to the grub prompt I can still change the kernel parameters to to init=/bin/bash. This will boot you into a root bash shell, where you can then mount /.

comment Should I 'run in' one disk of a new RAID 1 pair to decrease the chance of a similar failure time?
I don't run in new disks, but replacement disks, which were 'repaired' by the manufacturer have been unreliable to me in the past, so I 'stress test' them for 2 days, see also this answer on a related question: serverfault.com/questions/501838/…

comment Move process across NUMA system
I don't know of a tool that let's you move the running process, but we use LikwidPin to do the pinning (on a core level even, not a socket level) It's easy to use and I have not had any issues with it (yet) code.google.com/p/likwid/wiki/LikwidPin

comment Share /home between datacenters
have you tried 'lookupcache=all' for nfs? Performance should increase , but you might run into inconsistencies, like ls might not show a file that is actually there until you touch something in the directory

comment Is my Hard Drive Failing?
I also wanted to add that when your drive is in warranty, most vendors will replace it for you if you can show them it has SMART error, so you have no excuse not to replace it!

comment how to download the ssl certificate from a website?
This just checks one certificate, what if the service is part of a load balanced group of servers, of which each have a different certificate, possibly signed by a different root CA? Or in other words, a mitm attack might let this request go trough to the real site, and then direct other requests to his servers. Are there any ways to check this? And to get a list of all certificates an domain really has?

comment Monday morning mistake: sudo rm -rf --no-preserve-root /
I always put the -rf at the end of the argument list, so rm /bla/foo/bar -rf. At least that way I'm not into a lot of trouble when I accendentily press return after typing the rm / part.

comment What version of RHEL am I using?
lsb_release is not a lightweight package, It pulls in CUPS to provide ‘/usr/bin/lp’, which pulls in some pdf translation goop, which pulls in some rendering libraries...

comment Block employee access to public cloud
@MarkHenderson But with some nifty javascript you could easily upload huge files with get requests, and encrypt them in the browser first, I'm sure mega.co.nz can easily over such an option...
