Software developer at yWorks GmbH.

Usually I'll answer questions here about Java, C#, PowerShell, batch files, random numbers, regular expressions and Unicode. At work I primarily deal with C++, C#, PHP and a few other things.

My interests are mostly HCI, Interaction Design and UX. Recently I18n joined that list as well. That does not mean I have profound knowledge in either of those fields, just that I am interested in them.

Note: People contacting me outside SO/SE is fine, but for discussing their own questions or answers SO already provides a mechanism, namely edits and comments. So please use those things first.
I do hang around on Freenode as Hypftier, though.

You can also start a block with an opening parenthesis after the do.

comment Why does the Windows command line change the command when running from a .bat file?
+1. Indeed, cmd is just clarifying here (especially the 1> part). The statements are identical.

Note that you may want to specify an encoding to Out-File in case some programs choke on UTF-16.

comment powershell or bat - counting files in all directories and subdirec
@I__: I have fun solving complex tasks in archaic or limited languages. Note though that this won't work for two directory trees within the same cmd session since it's all just environment variables I don't reset after use.

It'd be even more awesome if it supported agrregation without needing to go through group|foreach{$_.group|foreach{$_|Add-member ...}}

comment Better way to wait a few seconds in a bat file?
I have yet to see a recent version of Windows that didn't have at least IPv4 installed. ping -n 6 127.0.0.1 works fine to sleep 5 seconds, even if no network interface has a connection.

It waits x − 1 seconds.

timeout also is only available from Vista onwards.

comment Hidden Features of PowerShell
To be fair, though, treating text files in UTF-16 as binary files is a bug in Subversion. Yes, it makes life harder at times but ultimately it's not to blame on tools that choose a perfectly acceptable character encoding.

Or simply gci <path> | select Name.

comment print exit code in cmd in windows os
Note that this will be overshadowed if a variable named ERRORLEVEL already exists. So be sure to clear such a variable beforehand for maximum robustness.

comment How to get robocopy running in powershell?
+1. That's definitely the issue here. I find it funny how people constantly try to use PowerShell as if it were an old text-only-based shell ;-)
