comment Preventing Windows from deleteing our root CA
@richb, can you post the makecert command you are using, or a copy of the certificate? Such a deletion should not be happening.

@richb, is your certificate valid? is it expired? do you have all intermediate certs installed? It shouldn't be deleted from trusted roots without reason.

@richb, typically you would not need to do this sort of mod. Third-party certs are specifically separated so they can be maintained automatically. If you are adding your own CA, use "Trusted Root Certificate Authorities" and it will not get removed by updates.

comment How to allow vpn users to access only specific servers?
That'd be the group-policy: cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/…. Next time try google first: google.com/#q=vpn+acl+asa

comment 2k3 to 2k12 AD, DC and DNS Migration
Why are you trying to change DNS at the same time as the DC? Get your new DNS running, then change DC's, or get your new DC online, then change DNS. Both of them at the same time is asking for trouble.

comment How can I use perfmon/logman to set up logging on a master (Windows) VM, writing to another machine on the network?
That does seem to be the case. If you are trying to capture all logs, perhaps have a sysprep action which sets the unique name. E.g.: log to C:\drop\logs on the base image, a sysprep action runs the script above to set to the computer name, and copies C:\drop\logs to the central server.

comment Which field to use when authenticating against Active Directory?
The documentation lists the formats it supports: DOMAIN\Account, DOMAIN.COM\Account, Account, Account@DOMAIN.COM. It does say fully qualified names are quicker, but the others still available.
