A foreigner living in a foreign land.

I have a love/hate relationship with VBA.
I loathe it as much as I am strangely drawn to it.
It is old but it will not die, it is ugly but equally fascinating.
When I code in VBA, I feel like I discovered an old secret that begs to be understood.
I imagine ways to hack it, to ply its ancient curses into modern idioms.
Then I fail.
Then I try again.

May the god of F# have mercy on my soul and liberate me from my sisyphean plight.

comment Best SOCKS proxy server for Linux
@poige actually, it can (wiki.squid-cache.org/Features/Socks) but it's not really the best fit for a SOCKS proxy.

as leader of the MySecureShell I suppose you would say that... :-)

Do you recommend any good tutorial that describe the setup on Windows clients and Linux servers?

I thought about it but I'm not too sure: the connection isn't secure, which means you need to setup SSL separately and I'm a bit uneasy about the security issues and flaws in the various implementations. Maybe I'm just biased and I need to look it up further.

This also looks interesting. I found a HowTo that I will need to test: ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1027820.html

Client machines are Windows XP/Vista. FTP doesn't encrypt connections so I'm really reluctant to use it. Does mapping a drive to FTP work in Windows?

comment Is it possible for a Scheduled Task to perform a graphical (interactive) logon or use a script to do the same?
Tried it and it's exactly what I needed to schedule a full interactive logon and logoff. Thanks!

comment Way to automate an application that requires a graphical login?
As far as I understand, AutoHotKey is a fork of autoit3. It can generate executables and seems to be as feature complete as autoit3. My script does work very well in an interactive logon but some parts won't work under a RunAs logon: I have to send keystrokes and wait for specific windows to display and this doesn't seem to work outside of a graphical environment. Autoit is interesting as an automation system but I don't see it solving that particular issue that I'm having. Thanks for the suggestion anyway, I'm sure it'll help others.

comment Setting up “Out of Office” autoreply on linux mail server
Thanks but not a solution. We already have our mail servers working fine. User have requested the "Out Of Office" auto responders as something they'd like to have, so I'm investigating it.

comment Simple one-way synchronisation of user password list between servers
+1 for showing me something new. Unfortunately, it's not close to a solution, and it's not available on RedHat systems? ;-(

+1 for mentioning a better -albeit more complex to setup and maintain- way of doing what I was looking for. Maybe it will help others.

Thanks but I don't want to sync the whole file because the UID of system users isn't the same on both system, so I can't just replace the passwd/shadow/etc files from one system to the other. Only normal users should be synchronized.
