comment Fix slow SSH login due to reverse lookup without disabling UseDNS
It may be that your dns servers aren't reporting an NXDOMAIN on the reverse lookups. Try looking up 137.161.97.23.in-addr.arpa on your broken machine and don't specify a resolver. Use the same ones that sshd will use. try "dig -x 23.97.161.137" and if it takes more than a second to respond, the DNS servers in resolv.conf are broken.

You have declined to use every option I know. Fix your sshd.conf, fix your DNS, or add an entry to your /etc/hosts file. How does UseDNS no make logs less useful?

Your IP (23.97.161.137) doesn't have a PTR record. Add one or have MSN, who is the SOA for this zone, add one.

comment Why are “sectors per track” still relevant on a modern OS with modern drives?
It seems odd because I can't find a reason not to use 63, but can see a good reason not to use 32 (older OS, 4gb partitions). I hear about theoretical and anecdotal performance differences, but I can't find any data to back them up.

This is the core of my question - I don't understand why I'm being asked for this.

comment Have a Domain, Have Amazon EC2 (Windows, NOT Linux) Server, Allowed port 80, Started Tomcat, FAIL :(
What is the exact error and what application is throwing it (httpd or tomcat)? Tomcat typically isn't run on port 80. Do you have apache setup and forwarded correctly to your application?

comment How to test an email address, MX records updated, it works, some users get returned mail
Who doesn't use MX records for sending mail? That would be a totally new thing to me and seemingly a very very broken way to operate.

comment FreeBSD Virtual consoles hang
It doesn't appear to be scroll lock. Some errors still appear on the terminal, so it looks like it is only an input problem.
