Web developer using primarily .NET/C#, though I've also done some Java, Ruby, C++ as well.
The competent programmer is fully aware of the strictly limited size of his own skull; therefore he approaches the programming task in full humility, and among other things he avoids clever tricks like the plague. -- E.W. Dijkstra, The Humble Programmer

How to recover the deleted table data from MySQL? I'm positive that you can't do this without a backup. |

Is UPS worthwhile for non-production equipment? @Hubert - a line-interactive UPS is probably a good compromise. This is actually what we went with. They are pretty reasonable cost. For really important things I would avoid a stand-by model. There's a nice discussion of the types at apcmedia.com/salestools/SADE-5TNM3Y_R7_EN.pdf An APC Smart UPS 420 is probably less than $150. |

List of common ways those could shut down server unexpectedly? Do you not get how a "fork bomb" works? See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fork_bomb. Running a program out of memory generally won't bring down the system -- running the kernel out of resources or corrupting kernel data structures, now that's how to crash a system (or at least bring it to its knees). |

List of common ways those could shut down server unexpectedly? Clearly, now, we have to add "Letting you manage it" to the list of ways to shut a server down unexpectedly. :-) |
