You're aware that 5.7 is a Development Release right?

comment Can I run JIRA on a shared hosting server?
JIRA and Confluence are resource pigs. Good luck running it on a VPS with 512Mb - 1GB RAM.

comment SSSD process won't die
Well I was wondering if you had dropped an LDAP domain maybe that confused SSSD. Maybe you could try purging the cache? i.e. "sss_cache -E"

Do you have multiple domains configured in your sssd.conf?

comment Is there disk based file system with dedicated memory caching for Linux?
I don't have experience with ZFS but perhaps you should investigate its ARC page replacement algorithm and whether it might provide a benefit in your case.

Downvote because the title has nothing to do with: "how to change the execution time of the my.ini file using Chef"

comment Run antivirus software on linux DNS servers. Does it make sense?
We found ourselves in this position - not specifically with DNS but Linux servers in general - and although we agree with the argument against, in the end it was just a box-ticking exercise that we got tired of fighting. So we run centrally managed ESET Antivirus on all servers.

comment The Backup Paradox
Enterprise Backup Solutions (e.g. Commvault Simpana) have data integrity validation (e.g. CRC checks on source data blocks). Regardless this is why the maxim exists to always check your backups. It's about reducing your risk to a price point that your organization can afford.

comment Secure permissions setup for Drupal website with multiple maintainers
Well, I commend you for seeking out security best practices but the bottom line is that you should be using version control and you should be using install/update scripts.

Your MaxClients is ridiculously high - unless the average size of an httpd process is like around 4MB (doubtful).

comment How to free linux memory safely to improve server performance
You can add swap if you can't reboot but it won't improve performance. Production servers, especially those running DB servers, shouldn't swap as it kills performance.

comment How to free linux memory safely to improve server performance
Not only will it go up again but the OOM Killer will eventually get invoked (unless it's been disabled) and take down your production service anyway. You need to add more memory and/or carefully manage the memory usage of your application.

Could it be kdmflush is active when you have the high CPU usage? Maybe you need to adjust vm.dirty_* tunables.

comment Growing OS cache in RAM causing high system CPU usage
I'm no expert on this issue but it appears that even with the setting at 0 it can cause issues (see: rhaas.blogspot.ca/2014/04/…). You haven't said what kind of application you're running but here is an attempt at a solution in the MySQL world (blog.jcole.us/2012/04/16/a-brief-update-on-numa-and-mysql). Let me know if this is on the right track! I'll make it an answer.

I think Matthew Ife is suggesting that the behavior you see might be related to the "zone reclaim" issue.

I find it ironic that you're using the Percona distribution but don't know about the datadir system variable.

comment Nginx SSL Termination - How to encrypt data to client?
X-Forwarded-For sends the client's IP address rather than the proxy's IP address. You still need to edit your Apache logging though in order to register the client's IP address. i.e. LogFormat "%{X-Forwarded-For}i ...

comment Nginx SSL Termination - How to encrypt data to client?
No, the data from the client/browser to nginx will be encrypted provided nginx has been configured appropriately. nginx then proxies the requests (unencrypted) to the Apache web servers.
