Server hardware is a custom setup on a SuperMicro board, 2 Inter Xeon 5620 CPUs, 16GB RAM, 2 SATA HDD Drives in software RAID1 mode.

I find that most manufacturer specs are misleading (or at least obscure) in one way or another. Even a single brand uses different and confusing notation for various models. look at: adata.com/… and adata.com/…. Looks like they try to make the most out of people's ignorance on the topic while it lasts.

comment Ctrl-C is ignored by pppd when put in a shell script
bash -i didn't help. Can someone reproduce and confirm this problem on their machine? On my machine this problem only applies to pppd. As far as I checked, no other program has this issue.

comment How to capture contents of the first packet of TCP connections using tcpdump
thanks. ngrep did the job for me using it's grep filter, not pcap filter. I'm not a libpcap expert but I still wonder if it has a filter which allows this sort of thing by something like putting arithmetic conditions on TCP sequence numbers. I will accept this answer in few days, if no one suggests a solution using a pcap filter instead of grep.

So, there's no way to have it live on a server with no X?
