comment What permissions should my website files/folders have on a Linux webserver?
@PatrickM - Actually, I disagree with my comment from last month. eve doesn't have to be in www-data to edit files, however eve does need to be in www-data if you'd like eve to be able to edit files created by Apache, e.g. uploads.

comment Is it ok to add users to the 'apache' group?
@KorjavinIvan - Would you mind explaining why it's bad to add the apache user to your user's default group? (I don't disagree with you; I just don't know, and I'd like to learn.)

comment Permission, apache user and www folder in Linux
I agree with everything except granting "world write permissions"—that means anyone able to log into (or breach) the system will be able to write to that directory, which is dangerous. I think definitely those directories need to be owned by apache via user or group, or some other scheme must be used, e.g. serverfault.com/questions/357108/….

comment What permissions should my website files/folders have on a Linux webserver?
@PatrickM - In the single-developer approach, I don't think eve needs to be a part of www-data, because eve is already the owner of all the files anyway.

comment What's the best way of handling permissions for apache2's user www-data in /var/www?
How would handlers like PHP-FPM fit into this model? You'd have to run PHP-FPM as a user in the group www-pub? (Because it would need executable permissions, no?)
