comment Infrastructure advice - appliaction and network servers
I wouldn't consider virtualization resource sharing as a "Gotcha" but as a benefit. There are many points in time when a domain controller for example wouldn't need 2gb (lets say its using 512mb) but you provided it with 2gb. By pooling the resources the Hypervisor is smart enough to know that the VM using only 512mb and will allow a different vm to use those resources. Another example. In most corporate environments at night there is very little network activity and servers are underutilized. A hypervisor can be smart enough to power down other Hosts and place all VMS on a single host.

You should virtualize your environment. It will give you a lot more freedom and control.

comment Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard located in our DMZ has problems with connection to RoDC
Sounds like a dns problem. Does your RODC include DNS? If so, is it pointing to it self (not loop back address) as the primary DNS server?

I would highly recommend you setup auto-enrollment with a offline root ca and subordinate. Its very easy and will save you a million headaches of exporting and importing certificates all over the place. Once auto-enrollment is setup the servers will automatically issue themselves the needed certificates. So will the workstations. If your going though all the trouble of setting up a RDS farm do it right.
