I currently work as a Site Reliability Engineer at Google London.

Before that, I ran a one-man game development studio called Frozen Fractal.

I studied Computing Science in Groningen, The Netherlands. I am experienced in C, C++, C#, Java and Python, and have some experience with PHP, Javascript, Perl and Haskell, among others.

I am also the author of Taekwindow, a Windows utility that enables Alt+drag style moving and resizing of windows, common in many X11 window managers.

If you want to remove all doubt that your webserver is free of blame, sniff the traffic using tcpdump or wireshark.

It might also be a broken proxy or some kind of client-side firewall that filters requests. It is unusual, though not illegal, to pass arguments to a PDF file. Maybe some exploit for the Acrobat Reader plugin uses that, and the firewall is trying to scrub the request but breaks it instead?

That's MSIE 8.0 on Windows XP with the Google Toolbar version 7.2. If you're feeling really curious, you could try setting that up in a VM to see if you can reproduce it.

Are you sure that it's your JavaScript (and not some random buggy scraper/spider/bot) that's sending these requests? Do the IP addresses and timestamps line up with that JavaScript being sent out to them earlier?

comment Can Windows power manager stop SYS HDD, if it is not in use?
Probably, something is using the drive in the background. Either way, this is more of a question for Server Fault.
