I'm a student programmer who's primarily into the C/C++ and Python languages. I'm in my final year of university and working part time at a K12 school.

My projects range from database applications for schools to full-fledged websites, and I have done work on video games. I am currently working on a hobby operating system.

Outside of the computer world I enjoy playing cricket, reading a good book, and aviation.

comment Is there any linux distro comes without ssh client by default?
I think you've been asked the name of the SSH client - which is typically OpenSSH. As for your actual question, I don't know if there's a distro that doesn't have an ssh client by default (otherwise I'd answer properly).

It seems both need the update catalog, which AFAIK you can't get without the update server on a Mac server. That's okay though, I asked to get an idea of what's possible and what's not - both these projects are likely to be getting looked at if we do end up purchasing a Mac server.

Yep, still needs the Mac server to actually get the update catalog. A great stepping stone article though - once we get past that first step, of course :).

Something like RewriteRule /* /Global.asax (syntax unchecked).

Does mod_rewrite to a single file work for you?

comment How should I capture Linux kernel panic stack traces?
@sysadmin1138: Funny, I'm trying to think of a VM solution that doesn't do serial. And wondering why you would use such a solution.

comment HW & OS for first proper / simple Linux server machine
Ubuntu Server has no GUI stuff by default too. That being said, I agree with the Debian Stable recommendation - a very solid OS.

comment VLAN Design - adding into existing infrastructure
@joeqwerty: A valid question. I'm looking at implementing VLANs to reduce the broadcast domain on the network as a primary goal at this stage. Security is also a potential outcome - especially on the wireless rollout we're doing in the next year or so.
