I'm primarily into the C/C++ and Python languages.

My projects range from database applications for schools to full-fledged websites, and I have done work on video games. I am currently working on a hobby operating system.

Outside of the computer world I enjoy playing cricket, reading a good book, and aviation.

If telling people you use Ubuntu is too embarrassing you can always use Debian (stable, as mentioned in other answers). Ubuntu Server is pretty solid though - just beware the distribution upgrade :)

We already run a Squid transparent proxy which all web traffic goes through. Ideally all traffic would be shaped, so non-web traffic also gets a chance. I could use OpenSolaris, but I don't have much experience with it and I would have to completely reconfigure the gateway machine.

sudo a2ensite default might fix an error in the default setup of Apache on Ubuntu. Alternatively, remove the NameVirtualHost *:80 line in /etc/apache2/ports.conf.
