AHH so it's the "acpi_index". Thank you very much. I really wanted to see that number somewhere in some output! It's a shame the OP on that post doesn't show the command he issued, but I'm sure I can Google for that. Thank you

Or, uh, 2^24. So maybe it starts from there...

Haha interesting. So my BIOS is VMWare. What's weird is that sometimes VMWare does eno16777736 and sometimes ens33. So sometimes it's "on board" and sometimes "hot plugged?" Weird. 16777736 is very close to 4096^2

Yes, VMWare. And thanks, I will check out your links! I don't need change it to eth0 so much as I want this system to actually be predictable for me :D. I've had ens33, too, for example, using VMWare. Really want to know how it picks those values, and how I can back into them myself.

Thanks. Indeed, you can also just hit ^l (lowercase L) to redraw once you've connected. As a side note, if running in screen/tmux (say, on the Docker host), it's also important to set the TERM to screen-256colors for scrolling to work correctly. Otherwise scrolling is broken (not sure why, exactly).
