My names Phil, I work as a lead web developer / designer for a large secondary school in Torquay, England. In the last year, I have created 7 different websites for the school. I started learning HTML when I was 12, and started learning ASP soon after. After struggling slightly with ASP and free web hosts I moved onto PHP, which seemed to be more flexible, powerful and easier to learn.

comment SMB2 traffic crashes network?
We were, I can't remember the exact details of it all now, but I think disabling the quota sorted it out for us. It was a nightmare!

Thanks @etagenklo , I'll give it a try in a bit. I contacted our hosting provider who is currently looking into it. I assume if its been removed, it may have been removed for a reason. However if I don't hear anything within the next hour, I'll try installing it. Thanks for the response :)

I don't have a problem with that. Any version of yum would be better than none. But the links I've tried for the rpm packages are broken. We have a windows network, so I'm more familiar with Windows servers as opposed to Linux.

Unfortunately, that was what was installed on the server with plesk. And I actually need yum rather than an updated version of it. Yum is non-existant on the server.

Logged in as root, no results found at all. There's only one mention on yum on the entire server, which is in /var/lib/yum which appears to just be text logs

Turns out it was our staff quota-ing system! It was doing audits of our system to notify us of staff and students exceeding the quota.

thanks for your reply. We're open to other possibilities other than SMB traffic. We've taken logs from a few other PCs (Network Admins) and it would appear their getting the same traffic on their logs during the slowdown time. I've edited my original post to mention that the only SMB traffic which increases during the slowdown is files related to adobe and photoshop (which we've upgraded to CS6 when the slowdown happened). We've looked at scheduled tasks, but unfortunately not found any! We've got a consultant coming on friday to have a look see. Hopefully they can shed some light!

We do have roaming profiles and redirected folders, all staff and students work and profiles are kept on the server, staff laptops sync up with the network when they plug in, however my computer (and the other network admins) save work both to the network and the C drive. I could understand it if it was a sync issue, but it would appear that its all photoshop files being requested from my computer rather than anything else. This happens on the other network admins computers, just photoshop files being requested.
