comment Setting up NTP on 2 Linux boxes and one OpenBSD box
You are right, it sounds like a routing problem more than anything else.

I've not been given any specific reasons, but these machines are part of my employer's main internet facing servers, and they like to keep things under control (which is obviously why they asked a J2EE programmer to look at them). Therefore, perhaps they feel routing is better than installing more servers/opening more ports on them?

For VirtualBox you can close the Host's window, where you will get an option to Power Off

@JoseK Yes, it was being exploded correctly. In the logs everything was going through fine, except for the mapping /sonar->app. In the end I created a new installation of Tomcat and everything worked.

I've accepted your comments because it's what I'll do if this ever happens again. This time around though, I gave up and reinstalled from scratch (which took me 10 minutes, compared with the 8 hours I'd wasted trying to get the previous installation working <sob/>)

There is no <Context in our web.xml - just in case you meant server.xml, there isn't one in there either.

The manager itself isn't on this Tomcat any more - we removed it - hence the use of JConsole

re: multiple <Host> declarations, we are trying to standardise the configuration of the Tomcat instances so that we only have to create the correct symlink in order to correctly deploy a new Tomcat instance. Perhaps we could symlink to the correct configuration file?
