This is my problem - I don't really know how to find that kind of thing out - like I said before, I'm not really a network guy, so I don't really know where to look.

You are right, it sounds like a routing problem more than anything else.

I've not been given any specific reasons, but these machines are part of my employer's main internet facing servers, and they like to keep things under control (which is obviously why they asked a J2EE programmer to look at them). Therefore, perhaps they feel routing is better than installing more servers/opening more ports on them?

@JoseK Yes, it was being exploded correctly. In the logs everything was going through fine, except for the mapping /sonar->app. In the end I created a new installation of Tomcat and everything worked.
