comment what is the alternative of apache's SSLCACertificateFile in nginx?
You probably made a copy paste error. The begin / end certificate, including the equal signs, lines around each certificate are mandatory. Check if you accidentally truncated one...

comment Forwarding a port on the loopback interface to a remote IP/port
I'd be interessted in a iptables solution as-well. Both given that loopback addresses are handled in a special way by the kernel, I could imagine there is no feasible way to do this.

comment Postfix smarthost, allow relay by dynamic IP
great, you may want to add tls to the mix, so that sasl auth only works with encrypted connection

Well no, that's what I suspected. Your apache configuration is actually wrong. SSLCACertificateFile does not do want you think it does. SSLCertificateChainFile would be the correct directive in apache. And as written in my answer, the way to do that in nginx is to append the content from your cachainpem.txt to the file specified as ssl_certificate in nginx.

comment Linux: How to get a machine's IP address?
yes it comes from the puppet ecosystem, but works perfectly fine as standalone application.

comment Linux: How to get a machine's IP address?
use of hostname -i is discouraged in the manpage: Display the network address(es) of the host name. Note that this works only if the host name can be resolved. Avoid using this option; use hostname --all-ip-addresses instead.

comment Transfer file between puppet-managed servers
as far as I understood it the file itself is generated by an application and not from within puppet... But of course I could be wrong...
