comment What is the recommended way to give a new machine the same name as an old one in a domain?
True! But could use domain root DFS naming instead anyway and try to steer away from manually typing an SMB path to a server share anyway - a bit like we should shy away from connecting to a server's desktop and automate or remote script all configuration changes and troubleshooting in a perfect world ^^

comment How do I know if my Linux server has been hacked?
The most advanced attack tools require zero skill these days and are easily available and some are extremely stealthy by default and by design. Botnets / zombies can be idle a long time before being used for harm but bugs in the attack tools can cause unwanted crashes and weird behaviour etc.

comment Patch Management and System Inventory on a Windows network?
An agent is the way to go on those older versions of Windows, perhaps you've run into some known issue on certain clients that can be resolved by contacting Microsoft?

comment How do I setup a wide area wireless network?
I've stumbled upon Ubiquity and their Unifi access point technology that so far seems like an actual alternative to the Cisco stuff, at last: ubnt.com/unifi - their controller is just a server app instead of an expensive appliance and their access points are much cheaper and initial testing shows great promises on stability and range.

comment Windows Server 2008 64-bit RAM going somewhere
Generally. using as much memory as possible to buffer and speed stuff up is A Good Thing (TM), which Windows likes to do when there is free memory wasting money just sitting there...

comment what can I do when the server refused to connect by ssh
+1 Always ensure console-level access to a server, that's also why virtual servers are so nice.

comment Centralized change of resolution in Windows
Why would you ever want to do that? The screen resolution is an individual machine-specific setting that each client should handle by itself to fit the display attached.
