Thanks. It's a very good question and it's a bit annoying that noone provided a precise answer - but that's usually the case with these things. Contacting SuperMicro might give some engineering clues if they're nice enough.

comment RAID 6 vs RAID 10? Which would you choose
It's not exactly backup, it's online disk backup which is just one of multiple tiers in backup that helps improve recovery speed. Just as RAID helps improve reliability - neither is really backup as a single malware or configuration error can wipe it all.

comment How to power on a system automatically when AC Power is back and it was powered off properly?
It should do that so it sounds like your particular motherboard doesn't play like the others do - and it's either a bug which may or may not be fixed with a BIOS upgrade, or it's by design and there's no way to "fix" it without switching motherboard to one that behaves like you want it to.

comment What do you do about staff and personal laptops?
True for compiling being mostly cpu-bound but linking generally takes a lot of disk I/O as well (though still being cpu-heavy too). I can't say I've even noticed any difference on an i5 laptop with a G2 Intel SSD and enabling bitlocker on all volumes. It worked so well that I'm now completely sold on bitlocker To Go on my private gear as well ^^
