comment What software to use for managing a win 7 LAN?
It doesn't support Windows 7 to my knowledge, but most of its features can be replicated these days by built-in Windows settings. Alas, as it supports Vista perhaps it can technically work with Windows 7 even without support though?

What settings? How is it hard to prevent system settings from being changed? You need to be local admin to do that in the first place so it's already quite hard by default ^^ (then we can talk about physical security issues and the need for full disk encryption to prevent booting from other medias to mess with the installation)

Thanks. It's a very good question and it's a bit annoying that noone provided a precise answer - but that's usually the case with these things. Contacting SuperMicro might give some engineering clues if they're nice enough.

comment RAID 6 vs RAID 10? Which would you choose
It's not exactly backup, it's online disk backup which is just one of multiple tiers in backup that helps improve recovery speed. Just as RAID helps improve reliability - neither is really backup as a single malware or configuration error can wipe it all.

comment How to power on a system automatically when AC Power is back and it was powered off properly?
It should do that so it sounds like your particular motherboard doesn't play like the others do - and it's either a bug which may or may not be fixed with a BIOS upgrade, or it's by design and there's no way to "fix" it without switching motherboard to one that behaves like you want it to.
