About Me

I can do it all. From web applications, to IBM mainframe systems, all the way back to windows forms. Web development is my passion, and that's where I shine. I am mostly skilled in the front-end, but I write plenty of complex code for the server-side as well. Gotta love it!

comment IIS 7.5 Static File Request to localhost occasionally taking 4 minutes
I believe this could be due to a commented out line in the HOSTS file for localhost to map to 127.0.0.1 this doesn't really explain why it works most of the time though. We did uncomment that and seem to no longer have the issue, but it will take a solid day or two of testing to confirm that.

@Kev Sorry for not providing enough details. It is a classic app pool. It is neither of the mentioned technologies, it an Xcentrisity BIS application, which I am not sure is relevant here because it is an ISAPI filter for .srf files only. Thanks for the help!!!

comment What is the deal with my AppPools in IIS7 after installing .NET 4.0?
There are zero 4.0 app pools in IIS prior to installing .NET 4.0, so obviously they are being created sometime during that process. And this is important because during the installation of some silverlight and other web applications, they are presented with a drop-down list of AppPools to choose from. The instructions we give them do not always match what shows on the screen (we are getting calls saying "The app pool mentioned in the instructions is not on the screen") and this is becoming a problem.

You probably can do it, but you won't be able to serve very much through a dial-up connection!

@jrcs3 You accepted an answer but didn't provide any details. That's not very nice for somebody like me who is having the same problem and searching for a solution. Where's your community spirit?!

comment How to Create Two Virtual Private Servers on a single Physical Server?
VMWare looks like an excellent place to start, thanks alot! I can already foresee some issues such as how to route incoming requests to the proper machine (based on HOST), but I'll cross that bridge when I reach it.

This is built-in to IIS, unlike the web-based interface of phpMyAdmin, right?

Looking at the comments, it appears like there are other issues that spring up as well. And most of them Dr. Phil does not even respond to!

comment Extension-less URLs on IIS6 with ASP.NET MVC
Yeah there are definitely performance implications with passing all requests to aspnet_isapi.dll. Crap. If Windows Server 2008 was not so damn expensive, I would upgrade!

@Zypher Exactly, thank you. I guess when I said "an easy way" I really meant "a non-malicious way".

Problem is, the developers have grown accustomed to things automatically locking and unlocking when they check-out or undo checkout with VSS. I know we will run into issues with this if you cannot replicate the functionality. +1 for pointing out the "auto-close if no errors" feature of Tortoise. I missed that!

comment How to Host Multiple Domains / Web Sites on one IIS6 Server
I thought I would come back and mention that I am still going to use the rewrite filter, to remove "www" and the default documents (like index.htm and default.aspx) from the incoming URLs.
