comment Prevent APT from overwriting custom files
How silly. I guess I'll go learn about diversions and if no one reports back with a better solution, I'll document the details of how I use a diversion for this here.

comment Can upstart handle symbolic links to config files?
Lame. Indeed symlinks are ignored without a manual call to reload config. Sigh. I prefer symlinks. Cleaner in my use-case. Oh well. I'll just copy the files in, like jerk.

comment How can I increase ssh security? Can I require both a key and password?
I also use the DenyHosts application to help lock out people who keep trying to get in, and failing. A nice little pro-active automated way of blacklisting people..

comment how to resolve all externally unresolved DNS queries?
@JdeBP Okay, cool, just thought I'd throw that out there. Just in case a simple answer like that had been overlooked. Thanks!

comment Unable to set up SSL support for Apache 2 on Debian
I think djangofan's correct here.. My Apache server's all have two different ssl certificate files, three in some cases, that must be referenced in the config.. The third applies when it's a for-real ssl cert, not a self-signed one..

With respect to your weird formatting issue - maybe you need to manually declare what character encoding your input you're mailing uses...?

Looks fine at a glance. What error message do you get when you try to run with this config?

comment Ubuntu server (VM) with two interfaces. Can only pass traffic on one or the other interface at a time
This sounds like a problem I've had before. Never really figured it out, though I think in my case it was a hardware limitation. I think I solved it for me by adding a physical nic to the virtual host and using that for the VMs. What is your host platform? ESX?

comment Desktop machine tries to map network drive with the wrong credentials
Isn't there a built-in windows gui that you have to call up via "run" that'll let ya see all sorts of things that happen on startup? "msconfig" or something? Any one know what I'm thinking of? What is that thing called...? Silly brain.

comment Desktop machine tries to map network drive with the wrong credentials
@DanBig - aww, now, I think I kind of did.. I gave the command name "net", cause that's it. You're now just being unreasonably kind (this is a playful sarcastic tone) to our friend Chris, giving away more of the offensively overly hackish solution (that may not really even 'solve' the problem).

comment automatically start/stop ALL scheduled tasks remotely
I guess this could be done through remote registry edits. Though the concept continues to frighten me.
