@PanagiotisKanavos Yep, saw that, wasn't getting them mixed up. I disagree rsync isn't suited to Windows based environments, however it's not suited to the types of things you're discussing (DFS for continual "live" sync as opposed to rsync for incremental data backup). There are Linux based environments where a live sync is more suited and incremental is not either. I think the application environment is more relevant than the underlying OS one.

@PanagiotisKanavos Except DFS is different to rsync. NFS (or a number of other protocols) are available on Linux based OS, but rsync is generally used for staged backups, once off transfers, etc. Apples and oranges.
