Oops. I meant the file I originally mentioned. /etc/php5/fpm/pool.d/www.conf

Ensure php5-fpm process is running. Have you looked in /usr/lib/cgi-bin/php5-fcgi yet?

comment Failing to install puppet
Man, that blows my mind. I read 80% of that and skipped over the ctrl-C bit. The fact that the output also inserts in a line break afterwards (uncommon for programs that run in the shell), made me more suspicious that it had hung. And that's despite the fact that I was expecting it to start up a daemon process in the first place. Thanks Michael.

Well, you are using --purge so if you don't care about config files, I don't know why you included this argument at all.

It doesn't seem to be removed. A random idea would be that it is having trouble purging the configuration files (eh if they were chattr'd). Is there any reason you need to delete the config files too?

comment Ubuntu 12.04 production server upgrade
@tBook i guess if you had to choose few to install, it would be best to install the security ones first. If you don't have the time or finances to have a staging env, then you can do whatever you like, I guess (yes, you can update packages on a per-package basis). Going to be very tricky if you ever need to do a distro upgrade.

comment fail2ban running on CentOS 7 & getting “ssh connection refused”
What else did you do besides install fail2ban? Doing that doesn't disable all connectivity.

Only if the content exists at the CDN endpoint. If all it's doing is acting as an intermediary node and fetches contain from the origin server, then this wouldn't apply.

Why don't you just take illegitimate users off your network rather than allowing them to remain and trying to fight their spam in real time?
