comment Using gitlab behind Apache proxy all generated urls are wrong
@gparent - I think just knowing that I was not going mad and that I could make that change and not run reconfigure was a big help.

Worked for me - just don't use reconfigure after making the change and remember to reset the setting if you need to in the future.

comment Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - Exceeded Number of Supported Devices?
The system is Windows based but there will be no harm in trying to connect one of the camera banks to a Linux system as seeing what we can see

Thank David - we hadn't considered that at all. Will take a look at USBView and see what that tells us

comment Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - Exceeded Number of Supported Devices?
Thanks Dennis - we did have active extender cables attached but these were removed as a possible source of the problem. We were wondering whether we could just 'throw another card in' or whether this was a driver issue - but if you got around the problem with more hardware then maybe that is our way forward. The end client may not be happy about us upgrading their hardware but if that's the solution....

comment Squid proxy server not forwarding traffic
It's probably worth noting that the error page that is displayed is generated by squid so it is at least receiving the request.

comment Squid proxy server not forwarding traffic
@Timothy - oddly no I can't. I can ping the VM from the host system but not from another PC on my network but when I try to telnet (using Putty) the connection is refused.

comment Logging into Local Statusnet instance on Apache causes browser to download a file
I've worked around the problem (see my response to Evans answer) but still not 100% sure how to fix it properly. For our purposes we don't need this functionality at the moment but this could change.

comment Logging into Local Statusnet instance on Apache causes browser to download a file
For the time being I've made a quick modification to the showHead function in lib/action.php, basically commented out the call to showOpenSearch(). Not ideal but at least it will let use move on until I get to the bottom of this.
