heh, good old SCUP. Have you tried uninstalling the drivers (checking the box for deleting the driver software when it prompts you) and reinstalling from a credible source? Corrupted drivers aren't the end of the world, and your update likely had drivers that were improperly installed.

@Bin well, it did get me past the error message, I'll be comparing it with the uncompressed version to see if there is a size difference of course. However, your suggestion did resolve my error message, so feel free to post it as answer, , and if it doesn't compress then note the known bug submitted to MS as well.

comment sccm 2007 agent fail to install on windows xp client machine even after manually tried to install agent
When installing manually, you should be able to check the event logs and sccm's own logs to determine if the agent was successfully installed or not, and if not, then the error code and/or reason. Have you checked these logs?
