Exactly, copying a sector block by block is fine, copying blocks at the sector level will likely server no usefulness.

heh, good old SCUP. Have you tried uninstalling the drivers (checking the box for deleting the driver software when it prompts you) and reinstalling from a credible source? Corrupted drivers aren't the end of the world, and your update likely had drivers that were improperly installed.
