As for you, Gilgamesh, fill your belly with good things; day and night, night and day, dance and be merry, feast and rejoice. Let your clothes be fresh, bathe yourself in water, cherish the little child that holds your hand, and make your wife happy in your embrace; for this too is the lot of man.
- Siduri the Alewife, The Epic of Gilgamesh
After several months it has become clear that participation in answering these questions is more a time-sink than what I gain back from it. So I leave you with this parting thought: no-one ever looked back at their life and said, "gee, I wish I could have been more busy with nothing of benefit to me, or more miserable, or even have met more unhappy people." No-one spends their dying breath on that, no matter what their beliefs are. So I move on, with my only remorse being that I cannot gain that time back, time that I could have spent with my wife, my children, and my friends.
For those few people that I met and thought highly of, my parting words to you are Carpe Diem, and best of luck. |
