I'm a sysadmin working at a large midwestern university. I have RedHat (RHCT, RHEL5) and Apple (ACSP, 10.5) certs and mostly get by on Google and a prayer.

comment YUM error. Is this a cert error
It would be helpful to know what distro and version you are running. Do the GPG keys listed in the error messages exist on your system?

comment Yum - is it possible to search all remote packages for a specific file?
Some basic globbing is available, too. e.g. yum provides "*bin/iostat"

comment Most effective way to change Linux command prompt for all users?
I'm not sure it's all that advisable to overwrite the user's settings in this case. If the user wants a longer $PS1, why not? It's a bad precedent to edit anything in a user's home directory.

comment How do you find system manufacturer/model on Linux without root access?
dmidecode is a great tool, but entirely unhelpful for me in this case, since the Condor process does not run as root. The only way it would work is if I got the administrators of the machines this will run on to make dmidecode setuid, which sounds like a bad idea.
