comment Active Directory remove user from GroupA if member of GroupB
took me a devil of a time to get the right CN= syntax for our weird AD setup, but this example was enough to get me through to the end of my first powershell script that does real work. Thanks!

comment Replace Notepad with Notepad2 (or Notepad++)
-1 for link only answer (and it's better to use the image file execution method anyway)

there's a syntax error in the example. It should be a space, not a colon, after /grant.

comment mklink to network share or UNC path or Mapped Drive?
some posts here, in 22-Jul-2011 indicate a potential issue with symbolic network links: "...linked folders are not watched in realtime, so the software doesn't see when files are changed or added. Only scanning them (verify selection) finds the changes in these folders.". This could be a real problem with large file collections (but perhaps mapped drives and UNC are also susceptible, so it's all a wash?)

comment mklink to network share or UNC path or Mapped Drive?
possibly related to the performance aspect, serverfault.com/questions/411110/… (though it's unclear from the answer if this is specific to symbolic links or a general MS-Office and network paths consideration)

comment Print spooler issue
I have run into this when the client has set their printer driver preference, under advanced settings, to a higher dpi than the system default.

comment How to delete system default printer forms?
The linked forms API page is exceptionally well written. Even though I'm not a developer it makes many things much clearer to me. Thanks.

comment How to delete system default printer forms?
@ServerFaulter, I need the same forms for multiple printers (and they have only one tray for the most part; most are large format roll-feed plotters).

...also there many forms listed in the Server Properties dialog that don't show up under that registry key.

Here's cure to the problem behind the problem: Windows Server 2003 forgets folder shares from ISCSI-Volume after restart

comment Why does Server 2003 not have System Restore?
I see it didn't think it through. I've always used System Restore on my workstation as a testing device: install this app, look at what it does, make some notes, back out the change, all usually in that same day. This is what my planned method was on the server. I guess what I'm really wondering about is "what is the equivalent of Source Code Control for a running machine?", which is a totally different question, and we probably wont see for years, if ever. ;-)

comment php redirect pages under folder to different domain
Hopefully it won't need maintaining. It just needs to go up long enough for the search engines to register the change. After 6 months or so the whole ./dept section will be removed.

granted, except that I don't have access to web server config and htaccess is disabled. I added a note to the main post that using those methods is preffered if avilable

comment reverse nslookup fails for single machine
I don't know if there is a PTR. When I add windows machine to the domain reverse lookup works, does that indicate the presence of one? I don't have admin access to the domain, and yes .222.44 is a Windows DNS.

comment apache2: Require valid-user for everything except “special_page”
ahhh, that pointed me in the right direction. Favicon doesn't appear to need authentication or exception, but /icons/* for MultiViews does. Thanks!

comment mysql: how may one change the value of certain records?
thanks squillman. Perhaps preface your answer with [For phpmyadmin] or similar as I've removed that from the question and it now appears out of context, but isn't. sorry for adding confusion!
