comment Performance of MSSQL Server Express Edition
Indexed views can be created and used in all editions of SQL Server, including Express Edition. The Enterprise edition's optimizer has extra functionality - it may use the indexed view even if the view is not mentioned in the query.

What's your goal here? To move all the mailboxes to ex1?

comment What is the best way to build an Exchange 2010 CAS based on an existing production server?
Both Windows Server and Exchange Server setup can be automated with answer files. If you know there will be demand for these in the future then put the time into setting up a Windows Deployment Services infrastructure (with WAIK for extra functionality) to deploy the machines. Exchange Server 2010 unattended setup. Windows Automated Install Kit.

An Edge Transport server would do nothing for this situation.

comment Exchange 2013 Virtual Machine: Backup just mailboxes and clear logs
From Exchange 2013 Virtualization at TechNet.Microsoft.com: "However, virtual machine snapshots aren't application aware, and using them can have unintended and unexpected consequences for a server application that maintains state data, such as Exchange. As a result, making virtual machine snapshots of an Exchange guest virtual machine isn't supported."

"&should be able to survive almost everything". Except for inconsistent files, which is what you get when you use disk snapshotting or VM snapshotting or SAN mirroring any other tactic like that. This is why Volume Shadow Copy was invented.

comment Join hyperv server 2012 to domain?
You should never get a chicken-and-egg problem because you should always have one bare-metal domain controller. For Small Business Server you can only have on DC, so if it is a guest (to which I'd ask, why?) then I'd make the Hyper-V parent a workgroup member.

comment How do we recover from a AD Domain that is now not responding as a DC at all?
It sounds like you are at the "last resort" point, Greg. :-( Building a new AD forest sounds good; at least you'll know you are getting a good forest, no inherited any issues from the old one. Good luck.

comment How do I setup Windows Server 2012 Remote Desktop Services to allow multiple users to connect to multiple servers?
Note that Remote Desktop Licensing is not free - it will cost you money over and above what you have also paid for your server and workstation licensing. (The two connections you get with "Allow remote connections to this computer" are included with the server license and do not cost extra.) Best advice - install the management tools on the administrators' workstations.

Criticised the answer above mine - I think is is very bad advice to flatten the forest before exhausting all other options.

comment What are the benefits of “enterprise-level” virtualization?
True, other features are required, but if a product doesn't have metred user-provisioning then it's not, in my opinion, an enterprise product.

comment What do I need to be cautious of when changing a User Logon Name in Active Directory?
Home Directories and Roaming Profiles are created based on the SAMID (AKA Pre-Windows 2000 logon name) of the user account at the time of creation. If you change the SAMID then you can possibly confuse sysadmins in the future who wonder why Bob's home directory is C:\Users\Kate.
