I'm a community manager and chief [bad] pun officer for Stack Exchange, following two years of service as a community elected moderator on Stack Overflow. Beyond that, I'm:

  • A husband and dad
  • A competent programmer
  • A world traveler
  • Not a teapot, and I have proof!

If you need to reach me, it's tpost shift-2 stackoverflow, but please use this form for common support needs. Note, I do not use services such as Linkedin, please don't try to add me there, it just creates noise.

comment Closed source alternative to Linux?
There's also that which we don't speak of, for completeness sake.

comment trouble running mysqldump on Ubuntu via cron job
Have you tried grabbing the output of mysqldump --print-defaults in the cron job to make sure it's running as you expect?

comment How can I block hacking attempts targeting phpMyAdmin?
Note that string matching (e.g. mod_sec, or anywhere else) is actually just going to make the server work harder than simply sending a 404 (that wasn't suggested, I'm just noting it here in case someone was considering it). These really are just noise you can safely drown out, provided that your setup is properly secured.

comment How to check if redis master is OK?
Are you using the production builds, or would a release candidate be acceptable? Sentinel addresses these problems very well, but won't be stable for a while.

comment How do you install Node.JS on CentOS?
Recent changes would also require people to update their Python installation (or configure will not work on any CentOS server still using Python 2.4).. Consider freshening up the information and placing it here?

comment Why is my router CPU at 40% when no processes use more than 2%?
Paraphrasing the important parts of the linked text would be nice. If the link moves or breaks, this answer won't help anyone in the future.

comment apache bin rpm from source
That should work. It's important to note, you should carefully inspect the .spec file CheckInstall produces. It takes a large number of arguments, and has very generic defaults for them.

comment Website integration: Frame, redirect or virtual domain?
There are some excellent free DNS hosting providers that give you full access to your zone records. It would probably be worth it to investigate some for the future, as being able to add a quick work around (like this one) will really speed up your work. Some hosting compaies / registrars are just morons, unfortunately.

I answered this here, instead, since it's purely a server configuration question.
