none of these answers is setting Env var, to kill the loop. And I still couldn't figure it out myself.

Thanks Phil, we did set it up to maximum value 1,048,576 what sort of performance decrease should we expect ? And yes, we will offload vhosts, databases etc to other servers essentially but we want this machine not to crash but be slower in the meanwhile as we burst its RAM and CPU.

comment Changing apache config with mod_perl, doesnt work!
Hi PP, I placed this inside a virtual host that catches every possible domain *.domain.com. AssignUserId is an internal part of mpm-itk so I don't think placing in Location wouldn't work. If you meant that if I have tried to insert Location just to see if it works, it's a good idea. Notes: I didn't get the danger you mentioned on your update 1.

Jeff, I've been working on it day and night, I think I am so close but I'm getting this: $r->add_config() has failed: AssignUserID not allowed here. here is my line: $r->add_config([ "<IfModule mpm_itk_module>", "AssignUserID devrim devrim", "</IfModule>", ]); I wrote to every Perl forum, but nobody seems to be of help. I'd appreciate if you consider. Thanks.

I actually am having difficulty adjusting this regex.. I think Perl using slightly different syntax. I have to push this variable to <IfModule mpm_itk_module> AssignUserId $subdomain $subdomain </IfModule> . I was able to do this before: $IfModule{"mpm_itk_module"} = {AssignUserId => "devrim devrim"}; now this didn't work within your snippet..

Hi Jeff, this is exactly what I am looking for, and it's very very important. I couldn't change your script, could you help me out? I just need {} part of any {}.domain.com to be assigned to $1, I can do the rest. I'd really really appreciate your 5 mins on this! Thanks!

${%-1} didn't work either.
