Thanks for coming back with the fix. I love the solutions which don't seem like they should've changed anything...

comment Windows Vista/7 Registry Issue
Stackoverflow may be a better resource for this. Unless other admins here are doing a lot of registry writing?

comment What would be better solution a single database or multiple databases, one for each customer
+1 get advice from an expert. Though as a non-DBA myself, I can't help but wonder if each customer's data would be more secure in its own database.

Many many options here serverfault.com/questions/44/… - simple answer here serverfault.com/questions/15110/monitoring-a-one-off-service

If you prefer, you can just pxe boot the finished image and do your slurping (couldn't resist) over the network.

Servers should never browse the web. Matt nailed it.

comment Erratic windows LAN behaviour
take a problem machine and give it a static IP - problem solved? DNS. I love it when people cheap out on network support and then blame random vendors, hoping for free support.

It's generally best to ask each question separately. This will make it much easier for the community to vote on answers (and more likely to post answers).

You're right - it's hard to believe that I ever used to feel safe with just one. ;)

comment How do I inventory the type and speed of a remote computer?
@gWaldo you're right, the interface definitely has school project quality. I love anything you can learn at home, experimenting & driving the family crazy. ;)

comment Administering Windows 7 clients from a 2k3 server?
Definitely. It's a very simple process, though it's important to be backed up and prepared to rebuild your AD if something horrible should happen. I'll add some links above.

comment Windows 7 Startup Repair Disjoining System From Domain
I couldn't find anything in group policy, other than denying user access to system restore. I agree it seems ridiculous to leave this feature un-manageable, but maybe they wanted to save something for win8.

Very easy to manage, with wizard-style setup.

comment What firewall should my network configuration be based on?
+1 because this mirrors my experience. Sonicwall support is better, but Watchguard truly seems to be a better product. In hindsight, I would've stuck with Watchguard and bought a book, or insisted on training.

comment Issue when promoting a second server as domain on R2 2008
Mouradb - your phrasing might be interpreted as a bit hostile, particularly toward people trying to help you. If you try to be clear, precise, and thorough about your environment as well as the error, that will get you the best results.

comment Exchange 2003 to 2010 Transition - How to tell if Public Folders are in use and can be deleted?
I did the same thing, and in the end, it seemed like I just ended up with an extra database. Safe & easy won out for me, too.

OUTBOUND, sorry that word just slipped right past my eyes. ;) Still an interesting question.
