comment I've broken my puppet, clients are failing reporting “ Could not run Puppet configuration client: Invalid parameter stage”
Sorry for the random commentary, but your question title made my day. Puppet is the best IT term since 'zombie'.

comment Windows 7 Startup Repair Disjoining System From Domain
Thanks, I can see that now. Especially since my home system lost power yesterday and I got to experience this firsthand... I'll be editing the settings in once I finish reading. SRT seems a bit overaggressive in its desire to back up to restore points.

I'm curious about what you'd be worried would happen? This seems like it would generally be helpful, but maybe I'm missing something about how it works?

WAIK is an exhaustive toolkit. There's a ton of documentation - which can be intimidating - but I found that diving in and reading & experimenting with it was the best way for me to figure out what I needed AND find a few extras I wasn't even looking for (but which solved other problems).

Have you tried the tool mentioned here? serverfault.com/questions/67192/…

Are the servers on the same LAN? WAN? Totally disconnected? Since dropbox isn't cutting it - what are your performance goals?

+1 the corrections make the downvote unnecessary, IMO

comment How should I set up multiple NICs for Hyper-V?
@MarkM I understand 'parent' to refer to the host OS. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dell_DRAC implies that the NIC it uses is unavailable to anything else. the 10.x.x.x is just the internal-only address space, likely NAT'ed to the external 128.210.x.x addresses, but I thought I'd save questions about firewalls until after we nailed down the first issue. /grin

comment Server 2008, can delete a file I shouldn't be able to
"the rights of the file itself were never enumerated since it was a Child of a parent object that had the Delete Child right granted to it" - you make it sound so simple ;)

I suppose it could be the ISP, too, though I've never seen that happen.

comment How should I set up multiple NICs for Hyper-V?
If iDRAC works the way I believe it does, its NIC is not accessible to the OS at all (but only to its controller card), so I'd probably use one for the host, and the other 3 for guest use.

comment Outlook doesn't download folders from Exchange mailbox
I'm pretty certain this is a workstation support issue, and something your employer's IT staff will need to help you with, as I'm pretty sure you won't be able to get at the Exchange info necessary to troubleshoot it. But the votes can decide... maybe someone's seen this before?

comment what is reliable way of getting name of primary domain controller?
I suppose if your AD is running on NT4, PCD may be the correct terminology.

comment IIS7: Allow users to identify themselves with either “Windows Authentication” or “Basic Authentication” on the same file
If it's a local account to the IIS box, they can log in with servername\username as their username, to give context - the domain\username works if the user is stored in AD (or presumably any LDAP server that the IIS box understands)

When you say 'disconnected' - what is the client seeing? Mapped network drive becomes disconnected, or something else?

comment Should I force my users to change passwords every n days/weeks/month?
It sounds like a good argument for not failing at user-education, not necessarily vs password policies. Not a failure on your part - someone higher up in IT botched things badly, because the ideas you listed should've been something every employee had put in front of them for every password-change-prompt.

comment Can I send HTML mails in Outlook Web Access?
Oops, I'm guilty of assuming everyone else gave up and just uses IE for OWA, too. Though I'm pleasantly surprised there was a quick fix for this without having to switch browsers - thanks for posting the follow-up.

The sbs-2008 may have been a mistag, if your answer was specific to that version.
