comment How to forbid HTTP TRACE in lighttpd
Thanks for the info! There's several servers behind the web-facing proxy (pond), so I wasn't sure which server the vulnerability applied to. So if lighttpd doesn't implement TRACE, then I guess it was Apache ;)

comment Howto setup 3-node heartbeat cluster?
@Lukas I think that information on the wiki page refers to a very old Heartbeat version, because right after the passage you cite, it says "A new resource manager which addressed these limitations and more was written for Heartbeat 2.0.0." And Heartbeat 3.0 is the recent version.

can I find out if SpeedStep is active from the shell? I have no root priviledges and cannot reboot the machine.

see my EDIT to the question. it seems one Xeon is at 1.6GHz, while the other is at full speed. Load average > 24, so no idling. Any ideas?

comment How to truncate backup paths in rsnapshot
rsnapshot seems to cut off the trailing /, so that it rsync with the path root@123.123.123.123:/mnt/rsnapshot/. Is there anything I can do without disabling --relative?

in theory, and according to the manpage, this should work, but it doesn't -- I still have the /mnt/rsnapshot in my backups. Any idea what could be wrong?

comment ssh tunneling only access
I think that at least in theory, the user will be able to hit CTRL+C at the right moment (between lines 1 and 2) and end up with a full bash shell.

comment how to automatically mount ~/Private using ecryptfs when logging in via ssh pubkey
thanks, that's what i feared. i know sshd doesn't know the private key; i simply had the hope that ecryptfs would somehow integrate with sshd to uncrypt.

comment how to design pound -> varnish -> jboss for ha + loadbalancing
Thanks for your input, but we won't be able to afford hardware loadbalancing. Updated the original post to reflect this.

well, i kind of have to worry. it's a production machine running backup (bacula) and voip (asterisk) services. as long as the defunct bacula-sd process is there, bacula cannot seem to access the tape drive ...
