comment Beginning a company's digital certificate infrastructure
@MichaelZ - I always thought that big companies have their own master certs that they use to issue other certs (still directly related to the company's brands) for new SSL sites, digital signatures, code signing, etc. I didn't think they were resolved to buying a separate cert for each activity (besides wildcard SSL).

No I don't think I can DoS google. I said that. But I just don't know what the limit is before I end up on some blacklist.

But what might that limit be? How slow should I have to go to avoid getting errors?

And I've reviewed google's FAQs and I don't see hard numbers. But that doesn't mean they would take kindly to it. I'm just checking.

sorry, 8.8.8.8 is google's public DNS. And the "trouble" would be either causing a DoS (unlikely) or at least appearing to be attempting a DoS (even though I'm not, the purpose is legit).

comment Azure Point-to-Site VPN but no DNS
FQDNs don't work either. Yes, the DNS of the virtual network points to the dns/domain controller as registered in Azure. The domain controller is the only VM - I'd like to join my laptop to that domain through the VPN which I think works fine but let me know otherwise. I have a similar setup - same subscription, distinct Virtual Network, distinct domain, DC and member. DNS works fine internally there and still fails over VPN (didn't have a need for that in that particular setup).

The Azure VPN adapter doesn't give the traditional options for IP address and dns configuration. But the main adapter is set to "obtain automatically". Strangely, (and when connected) ipconfig /all doesn't show any adapter that I recognize as being the VPN!

@TheBlueSky - if you've solved this for yourself, maybe you can help me at serverfault.com/questions/557539/… ?

comment Join Azure VM to Azure AD
Thanks. So in order to have a real Active Directory I need a VM that I dedicate to be domain controller and have it running all the time. That's lame!

comment Vertex 2 SSD Freezing 60 seconds at a time
It is an Intel chipset. I can't figure out what alternative/generic driver to use. Strangely (to me) the only options are have "IDE" in the name, which seems to be synonymous with ATA - or at least equally exclusive of AHCI.

So, I just updated this question to say that I replaced the drive with an Agility 3 (new in bubble pack from OCZ) and the same 60 second freezing is happening in the AHCI mode as with the Vertex 2 (actually, this drive freezes longer or just more often than the Vertex 2). Are you saying that this new drive arrived faulty?

Thank you, but my BIOS doesn't seem to have that option (by that name)

As stated, the firmware is already upgraded. And I'm already working with their support.

I upvoted you, but ceejayoz's SPF Record suggestion was the one that seemed to make an improvement. I appreciate the time you took in your response.

Leaving this open for a bit in case there are new ideas. Google Apps SPF instructions: google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=33786. Interesting tool: mxtoolbox.com

I had not done that. Thanks! Any way to test it to make sure it is set up correctly? I don't know that sending to one of the problem emails is a conclusive test...

Thanks for answering - but if you have any additional information, such as documentation/references, I'd appreciate it.
