Yes, that works. Although it oddly warns me that I'm performing a downgrade before asking to continue. But now the cache policy does look the same as the other servers, so hopefully it will continue to work in the future. For completeness, and anyone else reading this as related specifically to percona, I also had to install percona-server-client-5.6 and percona-server-common-5.6 with the same =5.6.17-65.0-587.precise version.

I've edited the question to include the output of apt-cache policy, since it's a little big for a comment. Thanks for the suggestion - at least I see where there is a difference now (except I don't know why or what it means).

comment Where can I get CloudVPN? It's installed on all my servers but I can barely find any info about it
Yes, I am ready to change - but only if I have to - I don't want to take the whole website offline while re-configuring the VPN if it is not necessary. I did not see that specific page on e-x-a.org - I only saw either commentary, or links that did not work, so thank you for that. Is OpenVPN what people really use? At a minimum of $60/year? I only need to connect the servers to each other, not tunnel into them privately.

The wiki page says the project was last updated 4 years ago, and links to an external page which does not exist any more. That (and a lot of other searching) is why I said "I can find almost no information".
